Alzhemier’s Dementia
One of the biggest fears is losing our minds, our memories, our selves. Recently in the UK they reported that the biggest fear was just that…losing their minds. Our mind is everything; without it we are nothing. Oh yes we can exist but is just existing what we wish or strive for? Absolutely not. Few of us wish to being taken care of by our spouse or a caretaker or a nursing home; few of us wish to be a burden on others or society; that is not what we were hoping for in our ‘Golden Years’. Is there Hope?
Let’s take a look at what we can do to treat Alzheimer’s disease or any of the dementia’s. What kind of treatment is there? Biogen, a pharmaceutical company, recently had a new medication that had reached Phase 3 Trials…the medical community was waiting in anticipation. No new medication for AD had been discovered since 2003 and the ones that were available had only a mild slowing of the disease, had multiple side effects and are very expensive. In fact, there was a move to not recommend these medications but it was overruled. Biogen was medicines huge hope.
The Balloon Burst! On March 21, 2019 Biogen Pharm. announced that their new medication in Phase 3 Trials was stopped and that the medication failed. All hope was lost. That means that at this time, March 2019 there is no available medication to treat Alzheimer’s Disease! No medication and actually there is no treatment available at all; basically none. The only medical treatment is to treat the symptoms for insomnia, agitation, anger, depression, explosive outburst, etc. with medications, containment, or even restraints. Needless to say the medications all have their own side effects which only makes the poor patient with AD have more difficulties than not . So in a way there are many expensive medications with many side effects that are available which is profitable for Big Pharma but not necessarily good for Alzheimer’s and other dementia’s. In fact, it seems treatment is more profitable than finding a cure for Big Pharma. Is there no hope?
CAP = D. There is hope and lot’s of it. We have multiple studies that reveal the SAD (Standard American Diet) promotes Alzheimer’s Dementia. Our eating habits are leading us to Dementia! It is my conclusion that the more animal products we eat, the higher the potential for disease, dementia, disability and death there is. The formula is rather simple: Consuming Animal Products = Disease (CAP = D) and one of the most devastating disease is Alzheimer’s Dementia. We only have animal products or plant products that our species can ingest and every valid scientific study has proven that a Whole Food, Plant Based Lifestyle does not produce Alzheimer’s Dementia and promotes clear thinking. My conclusion is a Whole Food, Plant Based (WFPB) nutritional food intake along with specific lifestyle changes can prevent Alzheimer’s. Wait, do we know that for sure? All preliminary evidence points in that direction yet the jury remains deadlocked with the Food Industry on one side and the WFPB/Lifestyle group on the other. The evidence and logic are heavily weighted on the side of scientific truth; the marketing and promotion of animal products is weighted on two factors: 1. persistent false concepts that meat and dairy are good for us, and 2. profitability.
The history of medical treatment is changing!!!
All scientific evidence reveals that we are plant eaters; everything about our structure reveals that we are Herbivores. From the top of our heads to the tip of our toes we are designed to consume plants. Our hands, feet, body structure, our GI tract and digestion, is designed for eating plants not animals. And all scientific evidence reveals that consuming animal flesh produces sickness and death to us; sort of a slow suicide. And we are designed to survive, move, eat, poop, avoid pain, and enjoy life; that’s our design. In fact, the concept of Lifestyle has become our guiding light for survival. Let’s take a look at what I mean by ‘Lifestyle’. A positive lifestyle includes Whole Food, Plant Based diet, moderate exercise, stress management, and socialization. The rapid development of Lifestyle Medicine is proving beyond all doubt that this is the primary survival operating procedure that wards off disease, keeps us healthy, and allows us to survive without disease or death.
The Preventive Medicine Research Institute led by Dr. Dean Ornish has proven when certain diseases arise, that by moving to the basic components of positive living or lifestyle we can actually reverse the disease process. This concept alone is complete proof that the formula CAP = D is a basic truth. Their new study is to see and prove that early Alzheimer’s Disease can be reversed!!!
