The Digital Age is Growing!
It appears that our “Digital Age” is getting bigger…well actually we are getting bigger!!!
Did you know that people who switch back and forth on their media devices may very well be overweight, or even obese! Who knew you could gain weight by leaving your ipad at home so you could use your iphone at the restaurant? Really….How many calories does your Apple have?
Google says a medium size apple has 95 calories (and the one key ingredient for health–Fiber!). According to a study from OSU in Columbus, Rice in Houston, and Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H. has reported that “People who often switch between forms of digital media are more likely to be overweight or have obesity and to have poorer self-control.” Richard Lopez, Ph.D. the lead researcher commented, “Increased exposure to phones, tablets, and other portable devices has been one of the most significant changes to our environments in the past few decades, and this occurred during a period in which obesity rates also climbed in many places, so, we wanted to conduct this research to determine whether links exist between obesity and abuse of digital devices — as captured by people’s tendency to engage in media multitasking,”. The researchers report their findings in a paper that appears in the journal of the Brain Imaging and Behavior.
Final thoughts: the concept of ‘poorer self-control’ is interesting; does this indicated that we are allowing AI to save our planet. I keep seeing the overwhelming need for our human population to greatly reduce and/or stop consuming animal products yet with almost 2/3rds of our population being overweight (some are obese) and continuing to eat as though there is no tomorrow, we can only hope.
If our rapid appetites don’t change, there will be ‘no tomorrow’ for any of us.
Another final thought; I have made the formula that states the study: SMD = ^ risk 4 OW/Ob
(Switching Media Devices equals an increased Risk for becoming OverWeight and/or Obese).
